Why is it that travel across time zones gets harder the older you get? What’s up with that? After 32 hours of travel, our flight arrived Amman Sunday morning at 7am and we were greeted by an Amawaterways representative who provided us with our Jordanian visas. He said his name was Mohammed the First, as “I will be the first of many Mohammed’s you will encounter in Jordan”. We love a good sense of humor!

As Jordan’s work week is Sunday to Thursday, we had to deal with some pretty decent rush hour traffic, eventually making it to the gorgeous St. Regis Hotel. The staff were so gracious and kind. When I mentioned that my knee was hurting, they rushed up to our room a beautiful tray of fruit and a bag of ice for me to ice it.

We purposely booked no tours for today and boy are we glad. Actually, we’ve built in two days to recover from the jet lag before the official touring program begins. After a leisurely breakfast, we explored our beautiful hotel and sat by the pool. We had a short nap and enjoyed a delightful dinner in the hotel’s Middle Eastern restaurant, Tamara.

Tomorrow: More of the same.
