This is our last day in Madrid and we wanted to spend the day looking at as much of the city as we could. We booked a Tuktuk tour through Viator. If you don’t know what a Tuktuk is, think a souped-up golf cart. The driver/guide sits in front and then there are usually two to three rows behind. Our cart was skillfully driven my Mariona; a delightful young woman, born in Barcelona, with super English. The benefit of Tuktuk’s is they can get in tight places that cars and buses cannot get into, and because you are not behind glass, you can take pretty decent photos.

To describe Madrid, in one word, on a beautiful sunny Saturday, would be delightful. While I’m sure many of the people we saw were tourists, Mariona said that locals embrace their Saturdays for leisure and entertainment. Everyone in the city must have been out – sidewalk cafés were full, shops were busy, cathedrals humming with weddings, families were strolling…it was actually really nice to see.

After the tour, we took the metro to a restaurant that our guide recommended in the Latin District. We sat outside and enjoyed the parade of people, and their kids, and their pets. We strolled a bit more before heading back to our apartments to pack for departure tomorrow. We’ve rented a car and will be driving 7 hours to the Mediterranean coast.

Tomorrow: Tossa Del Mar, Spain
