We decided to end our 112-day journey the same we started it, with a relaxing day at a resort. Though neither of us had ever been to Puerto Vallarta, we opted to forego any touring and headed to the Westin to enjoy their facilities.

We used an app called Resort for a Day, which proved to be super easy and affordable. You reserve your day with a credit card, then show up to the hotel where they put a wristband on you so you can utilize their pool, beachfront and restroom facilities. The Westin Puerto Vallarta is massive and beautiful. There are three pools that connect to each other, with landscaped islands and tropical foliage that is gorgeous. There were few people there, possibly because there was quite a bit of construction noise, but we didn’t let it bother our day.

We upgraded to a cabana next to the beach, which came with a great guy named Bikini who was very eager to fetch whatever we needed. The cabanas are on raised platforms, commanding lovely views of the ocean.

We enjoyed lunch by the ocean and drinks at the pool. There was even a swim-up bar. Five hours at this resort was not enough and we were soon headed back to the ship.

Once onboard I realized that my phone was missing. My best guess was that I dropped it in the cab. Marshall checked Find My Phone and my phone was moving around Puerto Vallarta. First back to the Westin, and then to the airport, and then back to the Westin. So just three days shy of making it home, I had lost my phone. I won’t go into the details of trying to reach the cab driver, notifying Apple and AT&T, blah, blah, blah. My ace IT partner did everything he could to get it back. The good news is, all of my photos were synced with the cloud and all of my data was protected.

The big pack-up begins tomorrow.

Next stop in two days: Las Angeles, California

Looks like a fabulous day except the phone loss.
