Naples, Italy
We did something today that I’ve wanted to do for a long time – go to the Isle of Capri. Situated just 24 miles southwest of Naples, it is a short 50-minute fast-ferry ride and we grabbed one early so we could spend the day exploring on our own. We arrived at Marina Grande and because I was a little seasick, we enjoyed a ginger ale at a local café before jumping in an open top cab to take us to Anacapri.
Once in Anacapri, we found the chairlift and both wondered if this was a smart decision. However, a mother with four young boys ahead of us in line said she’d googled it “and they’ve never had an accident”, so we popped into our seats and off we went. The ride was delightful and shockingly peaceful. Initially, you’re above people’s homes and gardens and you can hear birds singing. Then the pitch gets steeper and you are above the trees. Once on top of Mt. Solaro, you are at 1900 ft and the views are incredible. The ride down was even better than the ride up, facing the Bay of Naples, seeing the Amalfi coast and the Sorrento Peninsula.
Once back in Anacapri, we did some shopping and enjoyed some Napoli pizza at an outside café, [name]. We ordered the signature limoncello spritzer and they came in hollowed-out lemons, the largest lemons we’ve ever seen. They were huge!! And I might add, the drink was very tasty!
We walked around a bit more before another exhilarating cab ride back down to the marina. We stopped for a gelato and watched the ferries arrive from Sorrento, Amalfi and Positano. For an island that is only 4 square miles with 13K inhabitants, it is a bustling place, and every bit as charming and colorful as I expected. The next time we visit, we hope to see the town of Capri and visit the Blue Grotto. Till then, Ciao Bella!
Next stop tomorrow: Catania, Sicily.

WOW! You weren’t kidding about the size of those lemons. I bet that limoncello was awesome. These pics on the chair ride are incredible too. Adding both to my list of To Do’s.
I can smell the lemon from here! Cosmopolitan. Colorful. Love the scarf!
Love it! Best limoncello!
