Kenya Here We Come
We got up at 4am and our fave Uber driver Efera was at our house at 5:10 to take us to the airport. We said goodbye to Jilly and Roxy, knowing they will be in good hands with Sharon’s cousin, who will be staying at the house. We flew Delta today, from CMH to JFK, and then Delta’s partner, Air Kenya, JFK to NBO, the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi.
We decided early in our packing process that we wanted to have only carryon luggage. As previously discussed, we are using 50-liter soft-sided duffels and as we were flying on a small Embraer plane to JFK, we weren’t entirely sure they would fit in the overhead compartment. Thankfully, they slid in with no problems at all.
Once landed at JFK, we utilized the shuttle bus that they provide to get us from Terminal 4B to 4A. Our JFK layover was 4 hours and we spent it in the comfort of the Delta SkyClub. We’ve got a 14-hour flight to Kenya and will report in tomorrow, after we’ve checked in to our hotel.

Two of our closest friends from Atlanta also recently retired and are in their accelerated Go-Go-Go mode. Serendipitously, they are also in Africa right now and earlier today successfully completed the last stage of their ascent to the TOP of Mount Kilimanjaro!!! I can’t recall their next steps (after a few days of descent from the peak) but pray for the continent that a chance meeting of you ought to be well supervised — the four of you in the same place at the same time would send shockwaves through the Serengeti!!
