We arrived to the port of Honolulu by 7am and we were off the ship by 8. Our plans for today were to enjoy some pool and beach time at the Hilton Hawaiian Village on the Waikiki strip. There is this nifty app called Resort Pass that allows you to reserve day passes at many resort hotels, primarily in the US, Mexico and the Caribbean, though they are expanding. The pass provides guests with access to the amenities of the resort, just for the day. Sometimes you can even get a day pass for a room too, which we were able to get for a reasonable price. We took a cab to the hotel, and were poolside by 8:30.

The Hilton Hawaiian Village really is a small village. The lobby is open air, which leads to two towers of rooms. There are 4 pools, plus a lagoon, three restaurants and dozens of cute boutiques selling Hawaiian apparel, gifts, handbags, sandals, and homewares.

In the afternoon, we had lunch at the beachside café and enjoyed some more pool time, before heading up to our room for a little nap and shower. For dinner we visited Tropics, a beachside restaurant and enjoyed the sunset. Our food was excellent.

On our way back to the ship, we stopped by Whole Foods to retrieve our Amazon order and to purchase some fresh flowers for the cabin.

Tomorrow: Nawiliwili, Kauai, HI

Ha! We did exactly the same thing when we were in Honolulu on our transpacific cruise last spring! Yes, Resort Pass is a great tool for booking a day at a luxury hotel that includes all the same amenities for a terrific price.

At the bottom of the rainbow in the Hilton picture there was a restaurant – “THE RAINBOW LANAI”. To help pay for school, I worked as a waiter there – Believe it or not, I wore a tuxedo !!!
