Auckland, NZ
We started the day early and took a 45-minute ferry ride from Auckland to Waiheke Island. Waiheke has a population of 9800 and is the most populous island in Matiatia Bay. Weiheki is known for its vineyards and olive groves. We visited Batch Winery and Stonyridge Vineyard before heading back to Auckland.
Auckland is on the North Island of New Zealand, with a population of 1.5M. It is a beautiful, modern and clean city, surrounded by water on three sides. We walked around and shopped a bit, and then jumped on the Hop On, Hop Off bus, allowing us to see a lot of the city. They say there is 1 boat for every person and I believe it. With every vista, there was a marina with boats docked or moored.
Later, we met some new friends for dinner at Harborside Bar and Grill, along the waterfront. We enjoyed a wonderful meal and tried a New Zealand gin.
Next stop in 2 days: Picton, NZ.

We loved New Zealand. Definitely want to go back. We were amazed in Auckland – such a large city – but had such abundant green space.
