Change in Plans
As I’ve mentioned before, traveling around the world by ship requires a large dose of flexibility and patience. The newest change to the itinerary came this morning. El Capitano came on the horn to announce we would not be making port in Cadiz, Spain due to a storm. He believed we could get in there, but due to forecasted seas of 17 ft, we’d likely have to spend the night and that would make us late for our call in Barcelona on the 28 March. So instead, we would be making port in Cartagena, Spain tomorrow. Luckily, we had purchased the “any reason” cancellation insurance with Tours by Locals and I got our excursion cancelled with no issues. Now we’ll do some research and figure out what we want to see in Cartagena.
The upside to this is that we would be steaming to get into the Mediterranean quickly to miss the storm, and therefore passing through the Gibraltar Strait during the day (instead of in the middle of the night as was the original plan). Though visibility was not great, I was able to capture some photos from both sides of the Strait, plus of some dolphins too.
Mother Nature is never predictable and always spectacular!
Seventeen feet, sounds like a good decision,
