We were excited to be back in Sydney again. The weather was warm and humid when we left the ship, using a tender to get to the Man-o-War steps next to the Sydney Opera house. This was a big undertaking for the ship; disembarking passengers that were leaving the ship with their luggage, disembarking crew members that were leaving the ship (with their luggage), disembarking passengers for just the day (that’s us!) and embarking new passengers and crew (with luggage) joining the ship in Sydney, all while using small tender boats that hold 100 people. The harbor helped, using a bigger “people mover” during rushed times in the morning. As always, we appreciated the effort of the crew to keep us safe as we moved from one vessel to another.

We stopped by the Opera Bar, to sit for a morning beverage and take in the majesty of the bridge and opera house. This is one of the best views in town and we enjoyed watching the ferries come and go from Circular Quay. The metropolitan area of Sydney has a little over 5 million population and many commute into the business district by ferry. We took the city bus to the Australian Museum where we learned about Australian birds and beasts. Lord, there are lots of things this continent serves up that can kill you!

Next, we walked to St. Mary’s Cathedral where Ash Wednesday services were being held (hence no inside photos), making our way through Hyde Park to the shopping district, and then back to Circular Quay for dinner. By the time we were ready to return to the ship, the rain had started. I love to ride on top of the tender, so Marshall being the good sport, rode up there with me. Happy Valentines Day!

Next stop in two days: Melbourne, AUS

Curious why you couldn’t dock in Sydney? They have so many piers suitable for cruise ships….

Actually, we were told there is only one that fits most cruise ships (at Circular Quay) and we didn’t get it. All the other berths are for the ferries.
