We crossed the international date line today and lost Jan 29.  Wait, what? I mean we’ve both crossed the dateline before, flying west to Asia or Australia. But when you are on a boat, it seems so much more pronounced. We went from Jan 28, to Jan 30, just like that.  Poof! Gone! So weird.

Wikipedia states; “The International Date Line (IDL) is an internationally accepted demarcation of the surface of Earth, running between the South and North Poles and serving as the boundary between one calendar day and the next. It passes through the Pacific Ocean, roughly following the 180.0° line of longitude and deviating to pass around some territories and island groups. Crossing the date line eastbound decreases the date by one day, while crossing the date line westbound increases the date.” The IDL was established in 1884 during the International Meridian Conference held in Washington, D.C.

So now we are a full day ahead of everyone, plus a few hours. One thing we’ve really appreciated is the concept of going west and gaining an hour of sleep every couple of days. That I understand!
